German luxury carmaker Mercedes Benz today unveiled sports utility vehicle GLC and S-Class Cabriolet, at the 13th Delhi Auto Expo here.
It also showcased its premium luxury Maybach S 60 Guard.
“The GLC and the S-Class Cabriolet are the two most successful products and we will be introducing this year,” Mercedes-Benz India MD and CEO Roland Folger, said.
With these introductions, Mercedes-Benz will strengthen the two segments, SUV and Dream Car, which witnessed the highest growth last year.
“While, the GLC launch will boost our SUV offering further, the S-Class Cabriolet’s addition will bring a new dimension to the top-end luxury Cabriolets in India,” he added.
The German carmaker had posted a record sales of 13,502 units in India in 2015 compared with 10,201 units in 2014, a significant jump of 32 per cent, Mercedes-Benz India said in a statement.
By registering sales of 13,502 units in the January-December 2015 period, the company also achieved its highest sales volume in a single calendar year in India since its inception, it added.
The new GLC offers the dynamic select handling control system with five-driving progammes as standard. In addition to the Eco, Comfort, Sport Plus and Individual Settings, which are familar from other models, the new car is also equipped with the off-road engineering package.
he GLC gets a nine-stage 9G-Tronic automatic transmission which was first seen on the GLC 300 4Matic. You also get the option to switch the handling control system with its five driving programs, Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual, but the GLC is also said to be equipped with off-road package.
The other Mercedes model on show was the S-Class Cabriolet. It is the epitome of the maker and carries style as well as power. The S-Class Cabriolet packs a V8 engine of the S500 Cabrio with 455 hp and displacement stands at 4663 c. Mercedes S-Class Cabriolet comes with the promise of touching 60 km/h even when the car is on the move.

Customers and enthusiasts can expect some real excitement and fascination at the Mercedes-Benz pavilion.”
The Mercedes-Benz pavilion will be situated in Hall 15 of the Auto Expo. And in the words of the German carmaker its stall will be a fine blend of progressive design, seamless elegance and an emotive product display.
Coming to the engines, the entry-level S500 Cabrio is powered by a 4.7-litre twin-turbo V8 that develops 455hp and a massive 700 Nm of torque, and is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission gearbox.
If you’ve known Mercedes-Benz, it’s always willing to give buyers an option of adding more power and hence there is also the S63 AMG or S63 AMG 4MATIC Cabrio on offer. It gets the 5.5-litre, twin-turbo V8 engine that churns out 576bhp. All the power allows the all-wheel drive (AWD) variant to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 3.9 seconds before hitting an electronically-limited top speed of 250km/h.
